Discover your passion at the Sir Wilfrid Laurier Career Exploration Centre

Discover your passion at the Sir Wilfrid Laurier Career Exploration Centre.
That is exactly what students from Laval Liberty and Laval Junior High School, were invited to do last week, in support of the CLC Entrepreneurship week.

The Career Exploration Centre opened its' doors last week for students to explore our 'Passion Gallery'.
A leadership challenge that had students reflect and respond to 'philisophical, passion questions - such as; Without any limitations, my biggest dream is....

If my life consisted of only doing one thing over and over and over, it would be.....

The one message I would share with people all over the world, given the chance, would be...

Our Laboratory Technician did a wonderful job of guiding and animating the discussions with students who visited and a great time was had by all who visited.

Franklin Hill Elementary experiences Career Exploration in GRAPHIC DESIGN!

The Career Exploration Centre is happy to report that a good time was had by all students and teachers who attended on June 6th.  All students were actively creating all day and left with their personalized mouse pads.

Here is what thier teacher had to say about their experience at our Centre.

'' I just wanted to thank you again for today's activities. Not only were they well-organized (much-appreciated!), the steps were easy to follow and interesting. The best part about it was that the students were working most of the time after having had a mini-lesson. They were so proud of their masterpieces.

You were great! Very positive and to-the-point. Just what the Cycle 3 students need.

Overall, the students had a fantastic time and the day just flew by! I will surely participate in the contest again next year! We told our Principal all about it when we returned to school.

Thank you from Class 5/6 ''

Engineering Structures Day February 21st for SWLSB Graduating Students

Explore your future!
Live a stimulating and unique career exploration experience.

Engineers must ask many important questions before designing and building a bridge:
What type of bridge is best suited for this project?
What materials should be used?
What will be the safety features?
In this extraordinary, hands-on module, students are faced with a similar set of questions, only on a smaller scale.

As they learn about everything from correctly placing abutments, piers, piles, and trusses to evaluating the effectiveness of a bridge, students are putting their engineering knowledge into practice by designing, building, and testing a balsa wood bridge.

In addition, great engineering structures of the past and present are covered with interesting facts and histories, including descriptions of the geodesic dome, Hoover Dam, and the Brooklyn Bridge.

Biotechnology and Genetics Day February 17th for SWLSB Graduating Students

 Explore your future!
Live a stimulating and unique career exploration experience.

In this project-packed module, students get a taste of a wide range of biotechnological concepts, processes, and uses.

They set up and complete a hydroponics experiment and grapple with tough bioethics case studies.

Students learn about basic genetics and how DNA works, to analyze biochemical compounds in materials using chromatography, and to use enzymes to cause biological reactions.

In addition, they are asked to observe the fermentation process and explore common biological pharmaceutical products, and finally, students complete blood typing experiments.

Plus, with the Biotech and Genetics module, students receive valuable practice with a number of biotechnology tools, including a microscope.
